Romagnola Bull goes back to School

9th February, 2010

In the Spring of 2009 Taminmin High School, Humpty Doo, Northern Territory purchased a Romagnola Bull from Ron & Di Pullen, Wyoming Romagnola Stud.

Taminmin High School currently operate a small Brahman Stud however their new purchase, Wyoming Buster is being used over commercial Brahman cows in a crossing breeding program.

The school operates on 500 hectares from where they run their Stud and commercial operation.  The Farm Manager Tony Jensen said that they wanted to use the Romagnola for their early maturity and they are renowned for their hardiness and the quick growth rates of their progeny. The school sells the progeny via live export so the Romagnola cross will allow the commercial stock to be ready for sale at around 15 months of age compared to previously at 24 months.

In the future they hope to start a Cross-bred Bull program by retaining all the F1 females and then crossing back to a Brahman.  They aim to produce a ¾ cross bred bull with muscling and early maturity that is well adapted to the humidity and environment of Northern Australia.
