Theodore Feature Show 2007
14th May, 2007
With amazing weather and five keen studs from Roma in the West, Nebo in the North and Maryborough in East the Romagnola Feature Show at Theodore was shaping up to be a great couple days out to show the local Central Queenslander's what our breed had to offer.
The Judge, Mr Darren Childs of the Glenlands Droughtmaster Stud had a difficult day ahead of him with the quality of cattle that paraded before him.
In the calf female section the long and soft heifer Wyoming Breanna by the renowned sire Wyoming Urie took out the Calf Champion Female just ahead of the Padrone daughter Wyoming Bianca who clinched the Reserve.
In the Calf Male section the young and up coming bull Carramar Platinum from Col & Helen Berndt's Carramar Stud took home the Calf Champion Male.
The junior section for both the females and males saw some extremely strong competition. Four very feminine females from the Remus Romagnola Stud, Romulus Genetics Stud and Wyoming Romagnola Stud paraded for the judge who took his time in choosing his winners. On this occasion Wyoming Amity (another Wyoming Urie daughter) was named Junior Champion Female, with the very smart heifer Italia Amaya by the Italian sire Caronte taking out the Reserve Champion Female.
It was now onto the junior bulls and once again a strong showing of quality bulls that any bull buyer would have been keen to snap up. It was the smoothness and sire outlook of Hamilton Park Attila (Italia Xerox) that the judge awarded him the Junior Champion Bull over the Reserve Champion Bull, Italia Atticus by Padrone.
As the day headed into the senior section of the competition it was great to see the senior females with calves at foot and fairing so well given weather conditions at the time. It was here that the former Junior Champion Female of Beef 2006, Hamilton Park Zarina (Caronte) took out the Senior Champion Female, just ahead of the former Grand Champion Female of Beef Week, Italia Zoe (who just so happened to be sired by the Beef 2003 Grand Champion Bull Italia Vasco). Zarina continued on to be named Grand Champion Romagnola Female.
Closing the senior section saw the big senior bulls parade before the judge with great muscle, smoothness and sire outlook. Winning the Senior Champion Bull was Wyoming Angelo, just ahead of his half brother Wyoming Armando, both sired by Seymour Grekez Thiess. Angelo went on to be named Grand Champion Romagnola Bull.
Heading into the Interbreed saw the Romagnolas compete with the Droughtmasters for the Interbreed Champion. First we saw Wyoming Angelo take out the Interbreed Bull, followed close behind by Hamilton Park Zarina the Interbreed Female. But it didn't stop there for Zarina, as the cow with a beautiful female calf at foot claimed Supreme Exhibit of the Show - a repeat of the Roma Show only days early.
Later that evening among all exhibitors and show personnel the successful Romagnola exhibitors where awarded their prizes donated by various members of the Society and the Theodore Show.
A great few days was had by all and we hope to see the numbers increase next year for the feature show.
